Shrewsbury Gym Success
When you spend your day serving the community or serving your country, the mental and physical toll can follow you home long after the uniform comes off.
Whether you are active local Rifles Regiment, RAF Shawbury or or other military, a veteran, or a first responder, West Mercia Police, Shropshire Fire and Rescue, West Midland Ambulance Service, or NHS frontline staff, the high-stress environment, shift work, and heavy responsibilities take a serious toll on mental health.

One of the biggest struggles former service personnel and blue light workers face isn’t just physical strain, it’s isolation and the loss of camaraderie.
At CrossFit Shropshire and Fighting Fit Shrewsbury, we believe no one should have to navigate that journey alone. That’s why we are incredibly proud to officially team up with REORG.
What is REORG?
REORG is an extraordinary charity dedicated to supporting veterans, active-duty military, and emergency services personnel through functional fitness and the life-changing practice of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ).
Founded to help those dealing with physical injuries, PTSD, trauma, and mental health challenges, REORG provides access to safe, supportive training environments.
Through our partnership with REORG, we offer subsidized and supported gym memberships at CrossFit Shropshire and BJJ memberships through Fighting Fit Shrewsbury to ensure local heroes have direct access to physical training, stress relief, and a team that has their back.
Why Jiu-Jitsu & Functional Fitness are Game-Changers for Mental Health
Moving your body in a gym environment is great, but martial arts and structured coaching go a step further for mental wellbeing:
1. The Power of “Flow State”
When you are on the mats learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or tackling a CrossFit session, your mind is 100% engaged in the moment. The constant chatter of daily stress, intrusive thoughts, and work anxiety fade away because you have to focus entirely on the movement in front of you. It’s a total mental reset.
2. Rebuilding the Tribe
The hardest part of leaving military or emergency service life is losing your team. Our gym isn’t a commercial setup where people throw in headphones and ignore each other. We built a genuine, tight-knit community where everyone encourages each other, shares a laugh, and suffers through tough workouts together.
3. A Healthy Channel for Stress
High-adrenaline jobs leave your nervous system stuck in a “fight or flight” loop. BJJ and functional fitness give you a safe, controlled environment to channel that energy, burn off cortisol, and rebuild your body in a healthy way.

- Fighting Fit Shrewsbury BJJ Access: Dedicated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and grappling classes built around technique, respect, and mutual support.
